We are committed to providing greater access
to clinically appropriate, high quality, easily accessible
patient care outside of hospital trusts.
Patient Care Locally was founded in 2011 by a group of GPs operating within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, with the aim of supporting government initiatives by identifying patient care needs which could be provided in a more local, community setting. The company committed to providing greater access to clinically appropriate, easily accessible, high quality patient care outside of hospital trusts.
During 2021, the company experienced a period of rapid growth when we became an integral contributor to Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’s vaccination response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Patient Care Locally provided end-to-end management of 9 large vaccination sites across the counties. We also helped the system to identify areas of low vaccination uptake which we addressed by designing and delivering a mobile clinic solution, taking the service out into the heart of the community. All the while providing robust clinical governance and learning.
In 2021 we became a Community Interest Company (CIC); a development which upheld our strong belief in the core values of the NHS and the right of the population to enjoy transparent health equity. We became able to invest back into our community’s healthcare economy and committed to contracting services from local General Practices wherever possible, which ensures NHS funding remains within local organisations.
In the subsequent years Patient Care Locally has continues to grow and diversify, providing an ever-growing range of clinical services with the community. This has meant that patients are being diagnosed quicker and receiving treatment sooner, reducing the burden on Secondary Care.
We have expanded our interests beyond the boarders of LLR and are now active within Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire. We work collaboratively with more agencies than ever before and have a thriving programme investigating and developing new technology to ensure ever increasing efficiencies for the system and a constantly improving patient experience.
In 2023/24 Patience Care Locally saved the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland integrated Care Board £4 million.
We are immensely proud of our team’s achievements. Exceptional feedback from our staff, our system partners and, most importantly, patients proves that Patient Care Locally is making a difference.
A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a type of non-charitable limited company that is focused on social enterprise and benefitting the community is serves, rather than making profit for shareholders. CIC’s also have to function within a set of strict statutory provisions ensuring that the company’s interests and assets are used only for the benefit of the community.
A CIC is monitored by a special regulatory body and must meet certain criteria in order to be awarded the status. CiCs must submit a community interest report as part of their annual submission to Companies House, which evidences their financial summary, social impact and benefit.
In terms of day-to-day operation, a CIC functions in the same way as any other company.
