Residents in Rutland could soon benefit from improved access to healthcare, following the progression of plans for a new, landmark Medi-Tech Centre at Oakham Enterprise Park.
The purpose-built centre, if approved, will bring more healthcare services closer to home by expanding access to outpatient care, diagnostic tests and scans, and planned treatments. It would also provide space for education, research and innovation, helping to shape the future of rural healthcare while supporting skilled jobs and economic growth across the county.
Supported by £3.5 million of Government Local Regeneration Fund investment, the Medi-Tech Centre would complement Rutland’s existing health and care services through a modern, integrated approach that brings together clinicians, educators, researchers and health technology businesses in one location.
Subject to planning approval, construction is expected to begin as soon as November 2026.
The ground floor would provide modern clinical facilities including consultation rooms, theatres, diagnostic tests and scans and recovery spaces. A dedicated diagnostics pad would also be capable of accommodating advanced imaging equipment, such as MRI units.
The second floor would offer flexible accommodation for qualified healthcare professionals, research and development partners, and health technology businesses, creating an environment where new technologies can be developed, tested and adopted to improve patient care.
Managed and operated by Patient Care Locally CIC (PCL), the Medi-Tech Centre would be one of the first facilities of its kind in the region. By bringing together healthcare, education, research and innovation under one roof, it would help support the NHS ambition to deliver more care closer to home while strengthening Rutland’s health and care network.
Designed to complement existing services across Rutland, the Medi-Tech Centre could help improve health outcomes for the county’s 40,000 residents, support the needs of an ageing population and contribute to the long-term sustainability of health and care services.
